Introduction

Welcome to Lesson 1! This lesson will help you get started with Blackboard. It explains Blackboard's technical requirements and demonstrates the processes of logging into Blackboard, customizing Blackboard's introductory layout, and creating a personal home page for a course.

After completing this lesson, you will be able to do the following:

1.1: Blackboard's Technical Requirements

Before getting started with Blackboard, it's important to verify that your computer meets Blackboard's technical requirements. Most importantly, be sure you're using an approved Internet browser, Java is enabled, and your pop-up blocker is turned off. For specific technical requirements, check out Blackboard's Technical Requirements.

1.2: Log into Blackboard Account

This demonstration shows you how to log into Blackboard. It will also provide a glance at the Blackboard sections most instructors prefer to use in the courses they teach.


1.3: Customize Blackboard Introductory Layout

This tutorial shows you how to customize your Blackboard introductory layout so that you have quick access to information of your preference, such as links to the MU Library, MU's IT Department, local weather, or news.


1.4: Create Personal Home Page

This demonstration guides you through the process of uploading your photo and inserting personal information to create your home page.

Task 1: Customize the Introductory Layout
  1. Log into the Blackboard testing site.
  2. Customize Blackboard's introductory layout.
  3. Take a screenshot of your customized layout.
  4. E-mail your screenshot to your instructor.

Task 2: Create Your Home Page

  1. Log into the Blackboard testing site.
  2. Upload a photo and insert personal information to create your home page.
